Black women with breast cancer have a 40% higher death rate than white women, because 1-in-2 Black women don’t know what breast cancer looks like and it affects them younger. Yet nothing existed to help them identify breast cancer on darker skin, and Canada’s screening policy left out younger Black women.
Love & Nudes, an inclusive lingerie brand by and for Black women, wanted to change that. So, we created The Stage Zero Collection - the world’s first tools that help Black women identify the signs of breast cancer on darker skin tones.
Working with an oncologist, we recreated breast cancer’s symptoms with medical accuracy. After 18 months of clinical trials, we launched on World Cancer Day during Black History Month with social videos, influencer support, and pop-up retail events.
Thanks to our initiative, Canada is making breast cancer screening more equitable in its most populous province.
